I should put up more on the Courts of this country as it is a area of society that is definitely in need of attention. It doesn't strike enough people that a court system which has not substantially grown in over 200 years, is no longer functional. One of the main reasons for not re-electing Bush is his choice of Supreme Court nominees if he gets 4 more years. This man is fairly well manic about disposing of natural resources. He actually put forth his logging rights expansion as addressing the need to save forests from fires by cutting them down. DoHH! Did you hear that? Save trees from fire by cutting them down and selling them. Swear to god.Given a chance to stack the Supreme Court he'll validate the Patriot Act, overturning holdings that portions of it are unconstitutional, as well.

Now I personally believe some of the most profound insights into social philosophy are found in the thousands of volumes of our nations' law books. Some opinions, decisions and rulings are as deep as the subject can get. I marvel at the wisdom these jurists can display at times. No where is this more prevalent than in our dissent column where the truly heart-felt thoughts are recorded.


I have been substantially un-impressed with many of the opinions of the recent Supreme Court. Too many of us don't see how our rights are eroded by such writings. Never have I encountered a less informed Justice on the bench than Justice Thomas. I view the man as out and out inept, lacking in even rudimentary understanding of what it means to be a Citizen of a free land. He's as anti-citizen as I've seen. Of this Justice it may be said he is almost a product of his clerks, all too clearly

Worse than him though, may be the man who may soon become Chief Justice of our highest Court, Justice Scalia. While Thomas shows a lack of understanding, Scalia actively opposes Citizens rights in cases involving Corporations and folks, we're talking about a guy who argued in orals, it didn't appear to be a violation of handicap access, making a cripple crawl up the court house steps. He could get someone to carry him, so no barrier to court. This indicates not lack of knowledge but philosophically axiomatic differences with Citizenship precepts.


He is the first justice in recent memory to actively enter other justice's chambers to discuss and try to influence their opinions, a long-standing tradition of separation being held until he decided he could pop his head in the doors and ask what they were thinking on specific cases. To give you an idea of the type of politicially affiliated interference this country is in for here is an article which has appeared recently on his behavior concerning a case to come up before the Court soon. Her he goes hunting with a party to a case to appear before the court. The party? Vice-President Cheney. Again, this guy Cheney. I tell you Bush should drop him like a hot gallstone. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia traveled as an official guest of Vice
President Dick Cheney on a small government jet that served as Air Force Two
when the pair came here last month to hunt ducks.


The revelation cast further doubts about whether Scalia can be an impartial
judge in Cheney's upcoming case before the Supreme Court, legal ethics experts
said. The hunting trip took place just weeks after the high court agreed to take
up Cheney's bid to keep secret the details of his energy policy task force.
According to those who
met them at the small airstrip here, the justice and the vice president flew
from Washington on Jan. 5 and were accompanied by a second, backup Air Force
jet that carried staff and security aides to the vice president.


Two military Black Hawk helicopters were brought in and hovered nearby as Cheney
and Scalia were whisked away in a heavily guarded motorcade to a secluded,
private hunting camp owned by an oil industry businessman. . "In my view,
this further ratchets it up. If the vice president is the source of generosity,
it means Scalia is accepting a gift of some value from a litigant in a case
before him," said New York University law professor Stephen Gillers.
